Tuesday Night’s Florida DIRTcar Nationals Program Canceled After Heavy Rain Pounds Volusia Speedway Park

BARBERVILLE , FL – Feb. 13, 2007 – Thunderstorms and heavy rain struck Volusia Speedway Park late Tuesday afternoon, forcing the cancellation of Night 8 of the 36th annual Florida DIRTcar Nationals Presented by Mopar Speedshop.

UMP DIRTcar Racing Late Model and open-wheel Modified action was scheduled for Tuesday night. The big-block Modifieds of the Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series were also slated for practice runs in preparation for a four-night meet from Feb. 14-17.

With the cancellation of the week’s UMP Modified finale, Steve Arpin of Fort Frances , Ont., was named the division’s points champion of the 2007 Florida DIRTcar Nationals.

“We received a deluge of rain at the worst time,” said Harvey Fink , the general manager of Volusia Speedway Park . “With such a big field of cars on hand, attempting to run in the track surface and start the program late would have created an uncomfortable night for everyone.”

VSP officials announced that fans who purchased DIRTcar Nationals ‘Super Tickets’ for the six nights of Late Model racing can obtain a refund for their Tuesday tickets by mailing them to Volusia Speedway Park, 1500 East State Rd. 40, Deleon Springs, FL, 32130.

For further information, contact the Volusia Speedway Park office at 386-985-4402.

The Florida DIRTcar Nationals continues on Wednesday night with competition for the UMP DIRTcar Racing Late Models and Advance Auto Parts Super DIRT Series for big-block Modifieds. Race time is 7:30 p.m.
