Brighton and Le RPM Speedways to host DIRTcar 358-Modified and Sportsman Modified Series

Sportsman star Cody McPherson hoping for series point boost

WEEDSPORT, N.Y. – Friday, September 12, 2014 – Fall is just around the corner, and with it comes the annual Applefest Shootout Weekend at Brighton Speedway in Brighton, Ontario, and DIRTcar series weekend at Le RPM Speedway in St. Marcel de Richelieu, Quebec.

Friday, Sept. 19, the DIRTcar Sportsman Modified Series takes over Brighton Speedway while the DIRTcar 358-Modified Series heads to Le RPM Speedway for a 100-lap feature event. The next night the two series switch, the DIRTcar 358-Modified Series moving to Brighton Speedway and the DIRTcar Sportsman Modified Series to Le RPM Speedway.

Cody McPherson, whose win during Brighton’s Applefest weekend in 2012 helped win him the DIRTcar Sportsman Modified Series Championship the same year, is looking forward to returning to one of his strongest tracks.

“We’ve gone there since I raced street stocks, which was about six years ago. We’ve gone ever since,” said McPherson, who currently ranks sixth in DIRTcar Sportsman Modified Series driver points. “We’ve always had good luck there. I don’t think we’ve ever finished out of the top three.”

Last year’s NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week standout Brad Rouse, of St. Catharines, Ontario, holds the top spot in DIRTcar Sportsman Modified Series points over Mathieu Desjardins. Shane Pecore is in third place, trailing Rouse by just 55 points. McPherson hopes a strong run this weekend will keep him among the top dozen in point standings.

“It’ll be nice to go to Brighton, get a few more points, stay in the top twelve and lock in our spot for Syracuse,” McPherson said. “It’s a great little track, lots of action, it’s a fun little bullring.”

While the DIRTcar Sportsman Modified Series races at Brighton, the DIRTcar 358-Modified Series will be taking on the quarter-mile at Le RPM Speedway. Erick Rudolph, of Ransomville, N.Y., is first in points in the DIRTcar 358-Modified Series, followed by Mario Clair, of Drummondville, N.Y., in second and Ryan Arbuthnot, of Renfrew, Ontario, in third.

The following day, Saturday, Sept. 20, the DIRTcar Sportsman Modified Series will make the haul to Le RPM Speedway and the DIRTcar 358-Modified Series will make its way to Brighton Speedway.
